How should solar panels be stored?

Store solar modules indoors and dry, on their original pallets, in the orientation they shipped, and never above the manufacturer's maximum stack height. Minimize re-handling, keep serial-level records by pallet, and document pallet and banding condition at de-vanning. Most solar losses come from handling and stacking damage, not from weather or theft.

Stacking and orientation

Each manufacturer publishes a maximum stack height for its pallets. Exceeding it, or stacking different pallet types on each other, produces microcracks that are invisible until flash testing or field performance reveals them. Vertical packs stay vertical.

Handling discipline

Every additional move is an additional risk. Lay the storage plan out so pallets do not need to be shuffled to reach other inventory, and brief the operators that module pallets are glass, not boxes.

Records and traceability

Keep pallet-level and, where available, serial-level records. Commissioning, warranty claims and any performance dispute all depend on knowing which modules went to which site.
