Pallet storage is quoted per pallet position per month, and the rate depends on market, pallet dimensions, pallet height, whether the pallet can be racked, and how long it stays. Storage is almost always quoted separately from handling, so the monthly storage rate alone never represents your total cost.
What a pallet position means
A position is one standard-footprint pallet at or under a specified height: commonly 48 in or 60 in including the pallet. Oversized or overheight pallets are usually charged as more than one position, which is why pallet dimensions must be stated up front.
What is usually included
Typically: the storage space, basic inventory records, and general facility overhead. Typically not included: receiving and de-vanning, palletizing floor-loaded freight, order picking, outbound loading, shrink wrap and materials, special handling, and any reporting integration.
How dwell time changes the math
Fast-turning freight pays relatively more in handling and less in storage; slow-moving inventory is the opposite. If your pallets turn more than about twice a month, handling will dominate your invoice and you should negotiate there first.
