Base footprint
1,000 pallets at 13.3 sq ft each is 13,300 sq ft of raw pallet footprint. Racking three levels high reduces the floor requirement to roughly 4,400 sq ft of rack footprint, and roughly 9,000–10,000 sq ft once aisles are added.
Add the working space
Staging for inbound and outbound, dock apron, battery charging or equipment parking, and office or QA space typically add 20–35% on top of the storage and aisle area. At this size, container volume starts to matter: 30 inbound containers a month needs meaningfully more staging than 5.
Practical building sizes
In practice, 1,000-pallet programs usually land in a 15,000–25,000 sq ft leased space or a dedicated area inside a larger third-party building. Shared 3PL space is often more efficient because staging and dock area are shared across customers.
